Trigger Point Therapy

Also known as neuromuscular therapy, it was first described by Dr. Janet Travell, President Kennedy’s personal physician. Trigger Points are painful knots that develop in our muscles when an area of the body is injured or over-worked. This can be from a single event, such as a car accident or a work-related injury. These painful areas can also develop over time through muscle strain from repetitive movements at work or play, postural strain from standing or sitting improperly for long periods at the computer or in your car, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, and toxins in the environment. Trigger Point Therapy is designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. This results in the elimination of toxins in the muscles, increased oxygenation of the tissues, and release of calming endorphins.
Special Tip:
In this type of massage your therapist will want you to actively participate through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. Many times a significant decrease in pain is found after just one treatment.
